HSE’s latest bulletin highlights the very real Legionella risks during the COVID-19 pandemic

5th November 2020

The Health and Safety executive have provided specific guidance and advice on the steps that should be taken to control the risks of Legionella during the Coronavirus pandemic.

When it comes to all things Legionella, our director here at QUBE Environmental, Judith Richardson is an expert. Judith has many years experience as a H&S professional and has come to realise that Health and Safety Executive do not spend time writing specific guidance on a subject unless they perceive there to be a foreseeable risk.

The guidance provided by the HSE is aimed at employers, the self employed and people in charge of premises such as landlords. They all have a duty of care to protect people by identifying and controlling risks associated with legionella.

This is of even greater importance if your building has been closed or has had reduced occupancy during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as water system stagnation can occur due to lack of use, increasing the risks of Legionnaires’ disease.

You may find after reading the guidance that you require advice from a competent person and/or specialist to help you identify and implement suitable controls for legionella. Here at QUBE, we are independent Legionella compliance experts who are ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 certified for the services that we offer and provide detailed information and impartial advice.

We are also accredited by the Legionella Control Association (LCA). As LCA Members we demonstrate that we have complied with the LCA Code of Conduct and LCA Service Standards.
